Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has expressed fears over expectant women failing to attend routine maternal clinics in the county.
The county boss regretted that despite his government's commitment to reduce maternal deaths at birth, still women are not visiting health centers when giving birth.
"I am urging women to ensure they are attending maternal health clinics to avoid unnecessary deaths during birth," said Nyagarama.
The governor pointed at that 48% of women didn't attend routine maternal clinics as required in 2017/18 while 16% of childen below one year were not immunized.
He assured that his administration has put more resources in the health sector to improve infrastructure and equip public health facilities.
Officer in charge of health Douglas Bosire echoed the governor's remarks saying women must deliver babies at the health centers.
"Expectant women should visit health clinics four times before giving birth as this will boost the survival rate of the new born and mothers at birth," said Bosire.
Bosire urged expectant mothers not to give birth at their homes, saying the chances of death at birth when delivering at home are high.
