A section of leaders drawn from Murang'a county have thrown their weight behind the push for constitutional reforms through a referendum.
The push was introduced by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who wants among others, the expansion of the executive, and introduction of a parliamentary system of government.
Speaking on Thursday, Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and former Senator Kembi Gitura welcomed the calls, terming the looming constitutional amendments very necessary.
Reports on Nation indicate that Wa Iria said an expanded government will see the inclusion of most ethnic groupings, therefore reducing lamentations from tribal groups.
On his part, Gitura stressed on the need for a change of the electoral system, which he said will help in preventing post-poll problems as people disagree on the actual outcome of elections.
The Council of Governors (CoG), through its chair Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, also backed the push, arguing that it will resolve the issue of revenue allocation to counties.
Raila has repeatedly insisted that the changes are coming, and anyone who stands in their way, 'will be swept away' by the referendum wave.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also hinted at backing the same, saying that there is need to do away with the 'winner takes it all' system.
