Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya convened a meeting between Kwale County leadership and the National Land Commission (NLC) to discuss Mwache Water project at KSG Matuga.
The main objective of the meeting on Tuesday, was to discuss the compensation process of the affected persons during implementation of the project.
NLC confirmed that no money has been released for compensation, saying rumours that had been spread about such activity were false.
According to the Commission, valuation has not been done, thus value for land to be used is yet to be known.
Deputy President William Ruto launched the construction of Mwache Dam to ensure a steady supply of clean, safe drinking water to residents of Kwale and Mombasa counties.
The increased volume of water will alleviate the problem of water scarcity in the region, enhance food production and improve sanitation systems.
Governor Mvurya emphasised during the meeting that no machinery will be allowed to enter Mwache until compensation is done satisfactorily to all affected families.
Mvurya urged local leaders to stop inciting citizens against NLC and give room for the processes to continue as required by law as the County government closely monitors the progress once it begins.
The County government and NLC officials are today (Wednesday) set to have a public sensitisation meeting with the affected families at Fuligani together with the Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelughui to enlighten them on the process of compensation among other critical issues.
According to the officer in charge of the project management Simon Mwangi, the Ksh14.8 billion project will be complete in four years time.
He said designing and bidding for the project is almost complete ahead of the official construction kick-off early 2019.
Once the project is completed, Mwangi said it will end perennial water shortage in both Mombasa and Kwale counties by pumping 196,000 litres of water daily.
Compensation plans are already underway, targeting all the over 3,000 affected families before the project officially commences.
