Speaking in Limuru, Kiambu County, the Anglican church head called on politicians to engage in politics outside the church and not the pulpit.

His message was addressed to all politicians across the political spectrum.

He instructed church leaders not to allow the pulpit to be used to spew political rhetoric and called on politicians to give Christians the opportunity to hear the word of God.

"We are not going to open the pulpit to be the place where we do politics. To meet and greet Christians let it be outside churches so that every worship hour is worship hour so that what we hear at that time is the word of God and not political rhetoric," the Archbishop said.

Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit spoke after a meeting with leaders of the Anglican Church in Kiambu County.

His words come amid raging debate on whether politicians should be allowed to engage in politics in church.

Kenyans have been treated in recent weeks to politicians trading barbs in churches.

Last Sunday, the Kiambu Woman Rep was heckled and jeered in a church in Kandara after firing at the area Member of Parliament Alice Wahome.
