Wanjigi has been facing charges of being in possession of seven guns illegally following a police raid at his Muthaiga home in Nairobi.

Milimani High Court on Tuesday quashed the charges, noting that they were inspired by sinister intentions, reports the Standard.

In her ruling, Justice Pauline Nyamweya wondered how the latter was charged in his Nyeri backyard despite not having visited the region for a year.

She found the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Inspector General of Police culpable of misusing their powers by charging him away from the scene of the crime.

However, the two defended themselves saying that they opted for Nyeri since its the accused's backyard.

The court found the two bodies to have contravened the law by arresting Wanjigi despite having court orders preventing such.

Consequently, Wanjigi who doubles up as a close ally of opposition boss Raila Odinga will not be appearing before courts with regards to the case.

The raid received national attention and saw the former Prime Minister's camp at Wanjigi's home in solidarity with him.
