Residents of Bigogo village in Manga, Nyamira County are mourning the death of a 40-year-old man who died on Monday after he allegedly consumed one litre of chang'aa.

Confirming the incident, Nyamira County Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru said the deceased Lawrence Machuka sneaked into a room where his wife had hidden 20 litres of chang'aa and started drinking it. 

"The deceased stole one litre of chang'aa from a room where his wife had hidden it. He drunk the brew alone and later collapsed," Nakoru said.

The county commissioner said the deceased was rushed to a hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

"Neighbors rushed the late to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) for treatment but, unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival," he added. 

Nakoru warned locals against making, selling and consumption of chang'aa saying the government won't spare illicit brewers, sellers. 

The deceased body was moved to the KTRH morgue. 

The commissioner further reiterated that the war on illicit brew is ongoing across the county to flush out the illegal business people.
