The Kenya National Examination Council together with the Ministry of Education officials presided over the release of the 2018 KCSE results on Friday afternoon.
Education CS Amina Mohamed in the event stated that the candidates registered an improvement in performance compared to the previous years. Amina further acknowledged various stakeholders for delivering the 2018 exams that she affirmed were credible.
There were 338,628 male candidates, while their female counterparts were 321,576. A total of 18 counties had more female candidates than boys.

Pangani Girls in Nairobi produced Otieno Juliet Irene as the overall top candidate. She scored 87.64 per cent, a mean grade A. There were 1,499 students with special needs sat for the 2018 KCSE examinations.
14 subjects recorded a significant improvement, compared to 13 in 2017 while twelve had a drop. Female candidates beat boys in English, Kiswahili, CRE, Home Science, Art and Metal Work.
A total of 315 candidates scored straight As in this year's KCSE. The candidates who attained minimum university requirement grade of C+ and above rose to 90,377 an increase from 70,073 in 2017.
In the exams, there were 5 teachers interdicted while 57 others were still under investigations for engaging in various exam irregularities.
"There was not a single question or paper that was leaked to anyone before the scheduled start of the individual examinations. In the course of the exams, we witnessed a number of sectors where some examination officials attempted to engage in early exams exposure," stated CS Amina.
CS Amina called on candidates to seek admission to TVET institutions once served with the 2018 KCSE results.
