Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has claimed that the handshake between ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta did not mean that ODM was merging with Jubilee to form a single party.
During a live interview on Citizen TV on Monday Kajwang opined that the inception of the handshake was credited to the two leaders, Raila and Uhuru.
"Handshake leaders are President Uhuru and Raila but they are not working together as political parties," argued Kajwang.
However, the legislator asserted that the choice of the President and the opposition chief to work together for the common good of the country could not be likened to the party-to-party working relationship.
According to Kajwang, the ODM had their own independent internal structures, policies and plans. He also noted that the ruling party, Jubilee, had their own way of doing things.
In his observation, the two parties maintained their identity and their systems of management despite their leaders shaking hands and accepting to work together.
"I am an ODM member and we have maintained our conversations and structures as ODM. I want to believe Jubilee should also be able to maintain their structures," said the senator.
Raila Odinga's ally further insisted that the handshake did not lead to the merger of the two major political parties. He said the union involved two leaders who put aside their differences and resolve to work together for the benefit of Kenyans.
