Firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna has lashed out at elders from Mt Kenya region after they declared President Uhuru Kenyatta as the region's political kingpin.
Under the umbrella body, Gikuyu, Embu and Meru Association (GEMA), the elders said Uhuru was chosen as the undisputed leader of the region in a meeting held in Limuru in March 2012 and will remain so even after leaving the State House in 2022.
Through GEMA chairman Bishop Lawi Imathiu, the association showered Uhuru with praises for steering the country to development and uniting the country by reaching out to his political opponents.
“His wisdom and magnanimity was demonstrated by inviting his opponent in the 2017 election, Hon. Raila Odinga, in a handshake of 9th March 2018 so that they could unite all the communities in this country once and for all and fight corruption to its ultimate end,” Imathiu said in a paid up advert on Thursday.
Commenting on the advert, Miguna termed the elders as 'toothless tribalists' and accused them of an attempt to dictate the future of Kenya.
In a post on his official Twitter account, he said it's upon Kenyans to decide who will lead them and noted citizens will reject every effort to impose a leader on them.
"There is no country in the world called "Mount Kenya" nor is there a county in Kenya called "Mount Kenya." A primitive and moribund group of toothless tribalists will not dictate the future of Kenya. We must make sure of that," the vocal lawyer tweeted.
