A group of politicians attended a memorial service at the Holy Family Basilica Church in Nairobi to celebrate the life of Mboya who was the Labour and Economic Planning Minister at the time of his murder.

The delegation was led by Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Amani National Congress (ANC) boss Musalia Mudavadi and former Attorney General Charles Njonjo.

Also present was Nark Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and former Nairobi governor and Mboya's son in law Evans Kidero.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, Senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Amos Wako (Busia) and Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) boss Wilson Sossion also attended the summon presided over by Bishop Alfred Kipkoech.

Also present were Mboya's family members.

The bishop called for reconciliation in the nation, blaming politicians for the divisions being witnessed in the country. Bishop Kipkoech noted that he wants the politicians named and shamed to counter the habit.

"They have exploited Kenyans, sowing seeds of hate in them. But Kenya is a country that is well capable of reconciling its people," the bishop said as quoted by the Nation.

Mboya was shot dead by one Nahashon Njenga, previously a notable figure in the KANU youth league while leaving Channi's Chemist along Government Road. His assassination resulted in national unrest.
