Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani, who is being sought by police over drug trafficking, has extended his stay in India.

The tycoon had been admitted at the Asian Heart Institute in India after his condition worsened. The businessman underwent open-heart surgery at the start of the month.

The personal assistant has now revealed that the businessman will not return into the country until a later date after it emerged that police were planning.

 He was expected to arrive back on Monday at 10.20 am. The police had planned to arrest him the moment he lands at the Kenya Airways flight but he never arrived after he reportedly got information on his impending arrest. 

Nation has established that the businessman has decided to extend his stay in India by five more days as he rethinks the plot to lock him behind bars after it emerged that he is one of the suspected drug barons. 

 The police wanted to interrogate him as soon as he lands as they seek to determine the faces behind drug trafficking syndicate. Outgoing Mombasa police boss Johnston Ipara has confirmed the plans to arrest the billionaire when he arrives back into the country. 

“We will arrest him the minute he gets into the country. We want him to come and explain to us where he got all his wealth. We got a lot of cheques, title deeds and more than Sh63,000 from his house during our crackdown,” said Ipara, as quoted by Daily Nation.
