Eldoret is currently one of the few fastest growing towns in the country. It, in fact, is being considered to be elevated to a city status.
Just like any other town, Eldoret has several residential estates that are home to hundreds of its locals. There are those estates within a walking distance from the town while others are a bit far away.
Here are the seven easily accessible estates in the Uasin Gishu county's capital;
Kapsoya
It is one of the oldest residential estates in Eldoret. The estate’s trademark is a brown-coloured roof for almost all its houses. Kapsoya is one of the easily accessible estates in town. It is approximately 30 minutes walk from the CBD and only 10 minutes’ drive. The estate is associated with the middle class.
Pioneer
This is the nearest residential estate in Eldoret town. It is located about 10-minutes’ walk distance from the town centre. The estate is home to both middle and low-class locals.
Elgon View
The estate is home to the who and who's in the town. It is located about 10 kilometres from the Eldoret town centre. Access to this estate is either through a bodaboda, Tuktuk or personal cars as there is no Public Service Vehicle (PSV). It can take you as little as 5 minutes drive to get to the estate.
Huruma
It is considered one of the biggest residential estates in Eldoret, apart from Langas. Huruma estate is about 10 kilometres from the town centre. It is however easily accessible due to the availability of matatus operating in the estate that is considered favourable to the low-income earners. While driving to the estate it will take you only about 15 minutes and 45 minutes while on foot.
Munyaka
Thanks to the Slum upgrading project, access to Munyaka estate is now easy. The estate is located about 20 kilometres from Eldoret town but it is easily accessible through the readily available public transport.
Action
This estate is located along the Eldoret-Iten road, just a walking distance to town. Availability of public transport also makes it easily accessible, not to mention footpaths that can be comfortably used by those who opt to trek to town. Majority of those who live in this estate are college and university students though we also have the working class that call this estate their home.
Mwanzo
It is a bit far away from the town compared to the other 6 estates. However, availability of matatus dedicated to transporting commuters to this estate makes it among the easily accessible ones.
