Deputy President William Ruto’s visit to Bomet during the launch of the county's Universal Health Coverage last Saturday brought a sigh of relief to a family and relatives of a seven-year-old Ian Kipkoech.
The young boy from Longisa village in Bomet East was born in 2012 with a scar on his back. Later after several treatments, the scar developed to a disease identified as Spanol Bifida.
It has been a big problem for the family as the mother of the minor is a single parent and could not afford the special treatment required by her son.
During Ruto’s visit, the young boy managed to catch the attention of the DP after he recited a poem in front of the second in command who promised to cater for the expenses the family required in order for their son to receive specialized treatment at Agha Khan hospital.
It has been reported that Ruto kept his promise and Ian was on Tuesday afternoon airlifted on a private chopper, hired by the DP, to Nairobi where he will receive treatment.
Bomet governor Joyce Laboso through her Facebook page confirmed that Ian had been airlifted to Nairobi courtesy of Ruto.
"Accompanied Ian Kipkoech, who is proceeding for specialized treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi this afternoon. Thank you Your Excellency the DP Dr. William Samoei Ruto for keeping the promise you made during the launch of Bomet County Universal Coverage last Saturday, 16th February 2019 to cater for the boy's medical bills,” Dr Laboso posted.
