Fourteen people have died in a grisly accident along Thika-Garissa highway in Matuu, Machakos County.
The early Wednesday accident involving a bus and a lorry occurred at Matuu in Yatta sub-county, Machakos County at around 5 am.
Yatta police commander Joseph Njoroge Karanja confirmed the incident on phone.
Karanja said the bus belonging to Medina company was headed to Nairobi from Mandera before it rammed into a stalled lorry that was packed by the roadside.
He said those who died included ten men, three women, and a child.
"There has been a grisly accident at Matuu area at around 5 am where a bus coming from Mandera headed to Nairobi rammed into a stalled lorry by the roadside," Karanja said.
Sadly due to the impact, fourteen lives were lost including the conductor identified as Jamaludin," he added.
He warned drivers traveling at night to be cautious to avoid accidents.
"Drivers should be cautious and more so those traveling at night to avoid causing avoidable accidents," he said.
Karanja said the victims were rushed to Matuu Level 4 Hospital while bodies moved to Matuu Mediance mortuary.
