Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has told education cabinet secretary George Magoha to stop intimidating teachers who wanted to boycott the curriculum-based competency training before having their concerns addressed.
Khalwale posted his sentiments in his social media platforms where he disclosed that he watched the cabinet secretary on television warning teachers of dire consequences if they dare failed to cooperate when called upon during the rollout of the scheduled training.
Citizen digital had earlier quoted Magoha saying, “We shall not tolerate cases where the staff of the Ministry fail to coordinate their activities jointly with the TSC. I shall take stern action against my staff who will be reported as having failed to cooperate with those of the TSC in discharging education duties to learners…..I will personally be part of the teams that will travel to various counties to monitor this exercise to ensure it goes as planned.”
The former Ikolomani MP cautioned Magoha against taking teachers as if they were university students whom he was used to threatening while he was a lecturer.
The vocal politician defended teachers arguing that they had raised very serious concerns which needed attention.
"Watched/listened to a bullish C/S Magoha talk tough at teachers. Prof, teachers aren't those university students that you are used to addressing arrogantly! They have raised very pertinent issues on CBC," argued Khalwale.
The Kakamega county ex-gubernatorial hopeful advised Magoha to engage teachers constructively by listening to their grievances then look for an amicable way of addressing the same.
