Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has broken his silence over the state of affairs at public hospitals in Kiambu County.
The MP has now urged Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu to up his game in terms of service delivery.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament buildings in Nairobi on Thursday, Ichung'wa said health care is key to people's lives and Governor Waititu should do everything to ensure quality services are rendered to the people.
The MP said that the state of healthcare in Kiambu as reported in media recently is worrying, adding that Kiambu is among the counties that get a lion share of budgetary allocation thus service delivery should not be an issue.
"Governor Waititu and his administration must work and guarantee Kiambu people of their right to affordable and quality healthcare," said the MP.
He said that recent reports of patients sharing beds and being denied food at public hospitals in Kiambu are tainting the county's image.
Ichung'wa asked Kiambu residents to demand quality services, noting that they have a right to do so.
The vocal MP asked elected leaders in the county to work together to improve service delivery.
Governor Waititu has been on the spot in the recent days over the poor state of affairs at the Kiambu Level Five Hospital and other public health facilities in the county.
There have been reports of patients sharing beds and being forced to buy medicine from private clinics and pharmacies.
Waititu, however, blamed poor service delivery at the county's hospitals on delays in disbursement of funds by the National Treasury, as well as the influx of patients from other counties.
He said that the Kiambu Level Five Hospital alone handles over 10,000 patients every day.
