A 51-year-old man clobbered his 16-year-old daughter for allegedly attending a disco matanga.
The incident happened on Monday morning at Kianyabao village in West Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Joshua Machoni said his daughter Agnes Nyanchama, a form two student sneaked from her bedroom to attend a disco matanga in the village.
"I returned home at 11pm only to find her missing from her bedroom. I waited outside until 4am when she returned. Upon questioning she told me she had gone with her friends to attend a 'disco matanga' 200 meters away from home," he said.
Angered Machoni said he picked a wooden block which he used to beat Nyanchama with.
"I will not allow her continue sneaking from the house to attend discos. I had to beat her since she is still schooling," he added.
Area assistant chief Fred Onchong'a said Nyanchama was rescued from the beating by neighbors who responded to her screams.
"Parents should be vigilant to ensure their children are not sneaking from houses at night to attend discos," he said.
He however, warned parents against beating children saying they may end up causing harm.
The chief said alternative ways of punishment can be used instead of beatings.
The administrator warned locals against condoning school going children at 'disco matanga'.
