According to Sunday Nation, the three were then working at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi where Uhuru was born from in October 26, 1961 and the lead nurse during the delivery exercise, Freda Shibonje, said she is delighted to have helped Mama Ngina to deliver the man who grew to become Kenya's fourth commander in chief.

She said she closely worked with two other nurses; Naomi Muthoni and a one Mary whose another name she did not reveal at a VIP maternity ward at the health facility when at the time Mama Ngina gave birth.

"I was happy for the mother (Mama Ngina) since we had come a long way from the time we started attending to her while expecting the baby and when the moment came for her to deliver, I couldn’t wait to welcome her baby," Shibonje who comes from Kakamega County said.

"When the baby arrived, I was briefly overcome with emotion and the joy of a mother. I quickly picked him and held him in my hands, happy that everything had gone on smoothly."

The nurse said she would be happy to meet Uhuru and probably shake his hand, 57 years after she oversaw his delivery. Ms Shibonje is now retired.
