Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria is no longer supporting Gor Mahia.
Kuria dumped Gor Mahia on Friday, after being invited to serve as Club Patron for the Mt Kenya United Football Club, formerly Nakumatt FC.
“Today I am excited to accept the invitation to serve as club patron for Mt Kenya United Football Club after my partner and club chair Francis Mureithi and myself took over the management of the former Nakumatt FC and changed it to its new name,” Kuria posted on his Facebook page.
“At this point I bid farewell to my club of birth and choice, Gor Mahia. Though I set sail to new waters, you will remain in my heart. Mt Kenya United is your new Mashemeji Re-loaded and I look forward to the new Mashemeji Derby re-loaded,” he added.
He said that their immediate focus is winning the Kenya Premier League (KPL) title in 2019.
"We will be beefing up our squad for that mission while also developing junior and women teams."
The acquisition of the Club by the two politicians is expected to make it stable after months of financial instability.
The team survived relegation by a whisker during the 2018 KPL season.
Mt Kenya United Football Club will open its campaign in the new KPL season against Sofapaka on December 8, 2018.
