A police post has been opened in Kisauni, Mombasa County in a bid to rein in cases of insecurity in the area.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday after the opening of the Mjambere Police Post, the area police commander Mr Julius Kirage hailed the development as a great step forward.
"It may not eradicate crime but it will go a long way in significantly reducing crime. The problem with Kisauni is that the Kiembeni and Bamburi Police Stations are very far. But with this Mjambere Police Station, I strongly believe that the crime rate in this area will go down," said Mr Kiragu.
The OCPD said that officers at the police post are locals with a great understanding of Kisauni hence better positioned to deal with crime.
"The officers that we have had in the past were deployed from far-flung stations. They did not have a good understanding of the area but we now have officers who come from the area and who have a better understanding of Kisauni," he added.
Kiragu's remarks come just days after a notorious criminal known as Dula alias Captain was gunned down by police officers in Magodoroni, Kisauni.
Dula was being pursued by police officers over a string of criminal activities including robbery with violence and maiming people.
