After five years in incarceration, flamboyant businessman and philanthropist Don Bosco Gichana will now walk to freedom but he must part with Sh15 million as fine.
Early this week, at the Arusha court, Mr. Gichana was sentenced to five years in prison besides the hefty fine after pleading guilty of money laundering and fraud.
Luckily, he will not serve the sentence since he'd already languished in detention for an equivalent period.
As friends and family intensified campaigns to have him released, Don Bosco's life in Arusha prison may have after all favoured him.
Physically, he'd added weight with the Nairobian revealing that he used to be served with healthy meals thrice a day besides being subjected to freedom of reading books, newspapers or even making calls at his own time.
In contrast to his slim body size, Bosco, who's credited for funding Raila Odinga's campaigns in 2007, had substantially increased weight when he was pictured in the corridor of court.
ODM Communication Director Philip Etale confirmed that Raila Odinga worked closely with President John Magufuli to have him released.
Part of the scheme was to have him pleading guilty for a lesser charge and the plot worked after all.
Friends and family are now sourcing for the whooping Sh15 million to have him out, probably by the end of next week.
