Members of Parliament are concerned about shocking results at the Kenya School of Law, an institution that administers bars exams for law students.
This has led to the Attorney General of Kenya Kihara Kariuki to explain why students who had posted sterling results at university ended up failing.
He is expected to appear before the Legal Affairs Committee. Over 80 per cent of students sitting for the exams fail.
The Chief Executive of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) Dr Jacob Gakeri said that the council did not have the capacity to set exams and was relying on professionals in the legal field to set the exams.
"We rely on professionals of repute in the field. For example, moderators of our exams are judges of the Supreme Court and sometimes eminent accountants from reputable firms because there are units that touch on accounts, " Dr Jacob Gakeri said when he appeared before the Legal Affairs Committee according to the Daily Nation.
Kiminini Member of Parliament called for the CLE to reduce the pass mark to allow students to pass in the event of Mass failure.
After graduating from university, students are obligated by law to join the Kenya School of Law to take bar exams.
