A manslaughter convict has been incarcerated after failing to comply with his three-year-term of probation, pending the ruling on the case.
Peter Gachuri, 35, was convicted of killing his cousin, Samson Wahome at Mirangi-ini, Nyandarua County in 2017, and directed to avail himself for routine checkups at a probation office in Nakuru.
However, according to Probation Officer Rhoda Karugi, the farmer has been skipping his dates with the office and has failed to comply with the court order.
He was reported to the court which in turn issued a warrant of arrest against him last year, before his arrest on Thursday after a year of the manhunt.
Nakuru High Court judge Janet Mulwa directed that the suspect be held at the Nakuru GK Prison pending the ruling on the case which is scheduled for May 6.
“The accused to be detained at the Nakuru GK Prison as he awaits court ruling,” the judge ruled, as was quoted by the Tuesday Standard.
Documents in court indicate that Gachuri allegedly hit 22-year-old Wahome with a jembe on the head before the victim died while being treated at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital.
The incident reportedly emanated from a land tussle.
