Unnecessary duplication of functions in both the national and county governments is the major challenge that has led to the poor economy in the country.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday during a Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association Forum, Molo MP Kuria Kimani called on those pushing for a referendum to factor in the issue of duplication of functions.
“What is ailing our country is that we have a lot of functions which are devolved but are also duplicated at the national level hence we spend a lot of resources which could have helped in development,” said Kimani.
The youthful and first-time legislator also took the opportunity to challenge youths in the country to be innovative despite the harsh economy.
“As youths, there is a need to stop focusing on the 30 percent and have a wider picture. We can engage in agri-business and create employment as youths,” he said.
The forum was attended by youths’ representatives from various sub-counties of Nakuru with an aim to come up with a policy document that will see issues of youths addressed in the governance system of the nation.
