Interior Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho is no stranger to controversy.
He has often found himself in the crosshairs of politicians, the latest being Deputy President William Ruto and his allies over alleged meddling into their affairs.
What not so many Kenyans know about him is that in 2018, he paid Dennis Wachira, a hawker, Sh40 to settle a debt that President Uhuru owed.
Kibicho hosted the hawker at his office and had a chat with him.
The meeting came after the hawker trended over claims that the president owed him Sh40 and he wanted the debt settled.
The PS gave him a Sh50 note and demanded change.
"Mimi nataka kukulipa hiyo forty bob alafu after that tuongee. Si ni forty bob yako (I want to pay you your forty shillings and then we talk. It's your forty shillings," Kibicho told him as he placed the fifty shilling note on the table.
President Uhuru procured sweets from the street vendor and offered Sh100 but the seller refused, saying he just wanted forty shillings, as was revealed by Kibicho.
Since the president didn't have coins then, he promised to pay Mr Wachira later, a promise that was fulfilled through Kibicho.
