It has emerged that some students and their parents do not approve of the schools they were selected to join, some of which are located very far from their homes.

In a bid to secure slots for their children in closer schools, parents have resorted to making calls to school principals to request for positions, which is now getting out of hand.

Principals who spoke to the Standard said that they have been forced to switch off their phones, as parents call both their office and private phones seeking admission transfers.

This was confirmed by Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) National Chair Kahi Indimuli, who, however, noted that spaces can only be given if there is a vacancy, after which the parents are supposed to apply through the National Education Information Management System (NEMIS).

"It is stressful because some do not know the procedure. It is impossible for a principal to issue a letter because parents are required to print them from the website,” he said on Wednesday.

It has also emerged that over 30,000 children were picked for schools they never selected, among the victims being Kenya Parents Association Chairman Nicholas Maiyo.

“My child was placed in a school that he never selected. He declined to go there but I am convincing him that it is a good school,” he told the paper.

Details also indicate that some school heads have kept form one slots in their schools, which they plan to sell to highest bidders when the schools open in 2020.
