A section of MPs has called for the elevation of the debate of the constitutional amendment to the next level by taking it to the people.
The parliamentarians now want copies of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, to enable Kenyans to make an informed decision on whether or not the proposed changes are necessary.
According to Kieni MP Kanini Kega, who addressed the press at his office, the debate should now trickle to the people, who must have the final say in what needs to be amended.
"It must hit the road, we need the copies. In my constituency we don't have the copies, we want to create that discussion. By the time we are going on the ground we want Wanjiku to say that these are the things we want addressed in the BBI," said the legislator.
Similar concerns were raised by his Kiambu Town counterpart Jude Njomo, who also called upon the BBI committee to release the copies to his constituency as the push gains momentum.
"I would urge the BBI committee that has been put together to, in a hurry, distribute the copies of the BBI to wananchi (the citizens)," he stated.
The remarks came shortly after President Uhuru Kenyatta gazetted the BBI steering committee tasked with overseeing the implementation of the report.
