Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor on Tuesday confirmed he will carry out a postmortem on Likoni tragedy victims' bodies on Wednesday.
An autopsy on the bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu was scheduled to be conducted on Monday but it did not materialise.
Dr Oduor did not show up at Jocham Hospital mortuary the autopsy was slated to take place.
However, on Tuesday, he confirmed that he will conduct the autopsy on Wednesday.
“I will be in Mombasa tomorrow and the exercise is expected to begin in the afternoon,” said the pathologist.
Dr Odour observed that it was necessary to conduct a postmortem to establish the exact cause of death.
"Any death has a cause and that is what we will be seeking to establish in tomorrow’s exercise,” he said.
Mariam and her daughter Amanda died after their car slid from MV Harambee and plunged into the Indian Ocean on September 29.
Their bodies were recovered after 13 days by a multiagency team.
Burial is set for Saturday at Ngaamba area, Kilome Constituency, Makueni County.
Kenya Ferry Services has given the family Sh100,000 for burial arrangements.
