Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was today morning presented in court over claims of misappropriating over Sh357 million.
He was arrested on Friday, and spent the weekend in custody.
A number of top lawyers in the country have joined Sonko's legal team, in a bid to ensure he secures freedom.
The team includes, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, lawyer Nelson Havi, and Dan Maanzo.
The governor appeared in court under heavy security.
Others who were spotted in court this morning are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot.
The county boss has maintained that he is innocent.
In a statement on Friday, Sonko said his arrest was politically driven.
He also questioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over the manner in which it conducted the probe into his case.
The governor accused the commission of being biased and nontransparent. .
He went on to urge his supporters to remain calm as he fights for his freedom over graft claims.
"I am convinced that my arrest was politically schemed and designed to humiliate and embarrass me,” read part of the post.
