Speaking at a church service in Rarieda, Siaya County on Sunday, Mudavadi accused Aukot of misleading Kenyans that slashing elective seats is the only route to reducing the huge tax burden.

Mudavadi, a former Vice President, insisted that the solution to reducing public wage bill lies in fighting corruption and not Aukot's pushes for constitutional amendments.

"Punguza Mizigo is not synonymous with punguza representation, those are two different things. We should not try and make it look like we shall reduce the burden of the Kenyan taxpayer only through the reduction of their democratic representation," the ANC party leader said in a video shared by Aukot on Twitter.

In response on Tuesday, Aukot observed that Mudavadi made the remarks without taking his time to go through the bill, and was making an uninformed argument.

He termed this as the reason behind his unawareness that there are 15 other issues touching on the reduction of the tax burden in the proposal.

"Omwami @MusaliaMudavadi, over representation is just but one of the 16 other issues in the #PunguzaMizigoBill2019. At least go through the Bill and then you can make your point," Aukot said in a tweet.
