Residents of Gesabakwa in Megogo, Marani Sub-County in Kisii are mourning the death of a middle-aged man who hanged himself on Monday night under unclear circumstances.
It is alleged that the deceased Alex Ondigo has attempted to commit suicide 7 times in the past.
"Ondigo's body was found hanging inside his house on Tuesday morning. Reasons for his decision to end his life remains unknown because he did not quarrel with any of his family members," said the area assistant chief Innocent Masega.
Masega said the deceased used three ropes to hang himself.
The chief expressed concerns over increased cases of suicide in the area and called on members of the clergy to intervene with prayers.
Until his death, Ondigo was not married.
Masega said the death has not only left family members in shock but also the entire village.
Kisii County Police commander Martin Kibet confirmed the incident saying police officers from Marani picked the body from the scene.
"The deceased body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue. A probe is ongoing to establish why he decided to end his life," Kibet noted.
He also advised locals against resorting to suicide as a way of addressing any challenges hey might be facing.
