For the first time in as many months, former Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe came face to face with Deputy President William Ruto at Gatanga in Murang'a on Thursday.
The two leaders were attending the funeral of Mama Rahab Wambui, the mother to former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, who happens to be Murathe's successor.
Murathe was introducing Royal Media Services chairman S.K Macharia to President Uhuru Kenyatta as DP Ruto looked on from a distance.
Early this year, Murathe and Ruto parted ways after the former MP, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said Dr Ruto is unfit to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“There are a lot of people within Jubilee and outside Jubilee who share my sentiments. Going forward, the ‘Stop Ruto’ movement which we are going to start, there is no stopping it. Let them form their troops, and we have no problem, let the best side win,” Mr Murathe told KTN News.
“These are things we need to start discussing now. Is it possible, for instance, for the President now, after serving two terms, to then go back and say he wants to be elected as deputy president?” Mr Murathe asked.
And in what could be the fulfilment of Murathe's controversial remarks, President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday seemed to publicly hint that he may not support Ruto's bid.
While speaking at Ruiru, Uhuru who had promised previously that he will back Ruto, said that he is not bothered with who becomes the next president.
“Uchaguzi utakuja na Mungu ndiye hupeana uongozi. Tufanye kazi (God knows who will be elected. It is time to work),” he said.
