Weighing in on Wednesday on the prospect of Ruto capturing power, Mr Jirongo did not mince his words as he questioned the suitability of the country's second in command to be the head of state.

"I don't think this is a person, at whatever cost, should be given the opportunity to move anywhere near power, " the former Lugari Member of Parliament said

Mr Jirongo went on to accuse the DP of what he called criminal deception.

For a long time, the deputy president has been adversely accused of engaging in corruption.

He has denied those graft allegations leveled against him, urging those who think that he is corrupt to take their evidence to the relevant law enforcement agencies.

His huge donations in religious institutions have made scores of politicians to question the source of his wealth.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has been very vocal about the donations that the deputy president makes in churches.

DP Ruto has publicly declared that he will contest for the top seat in the 2022 presidential election using the Jubilee Party ticket.

Mr Odinga, who is widely seen as his potential opponent, is yet to declare his 2022 presidential bid.
