Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said Lake Naivasha holds the wealth of Naivasha Sub-county hence needs good management.

“We are aware that Lake Naivasha holds the wealth of Naivasha Sub-county, prompting us to manage this resource well,” Kinyanjui said.

Kinyanjui made the sentiments when he joined Principal Secretary, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Prof. Micheni Ntiba in marking the World Fisheries Day at Kamere Beach in Lake Naivasha on Wednesday.

He commended the government for choosing Nakuru County as the host for the national event.

Kinyanjui said the County Government of Nakuru has prioritized fish farming and has set aside Sh22 million to boost fish farming.

In addition, the county will construct a modern market along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, where fish traders can sell their fish to the road users.

Kinyanjui's administration agreed to withdraw the Karagita Beach Corridor's case from court and instead settle it out of court for the sake of the fisherfolk who use this route to access the lake.

Earlier, the team restocked the lake with 150, 000 fingerlings.

The function was also attended by Agriculture CECM Dr. Immaculate Maina, Public Service Management CECM Mwangangi Mwania, Chief Officers, Directors, and members of the County Assembly among other officials.
