It is a good idea to know how to deal with dog bites.  According to Cleveland Clinic dealing with a dog bite for novices can be a tough task for novices.

Here are 7 things to do immediately if you are bitten by a dog:

1. Visit a doctor immediately

Seeking immediate medical attention should be the first step to take when bitten by a dog. Make sure you reach out to a doctor especially if you are bleeding excessively.

2. Find out the health condition of the dog

Some dogs have rabies. Find out whether the dog has been vaccinated or not.  A dog that has not been vaccinated can be deadly.

3. Seek instant treatment from the emergency room

Did the dog leave you with wounds? The wounds can be best treated in the emergency rooms. Ensure you reach the rooms speedily for medical attention.  The doctors understand how to deal with the wounds.

4. Find witness contacts

Did anyone see the dog bite you?  The witnesses can be helpful if the injuries are extreme. Never ignore the witnesses whenever a dog attacks you.

5. Reach out to the owner

Find out the owner of the dog. He or she should provide you with insurance or any other information you deem useful for the sake of treatment.

6. Stick to the doctor’s guidance

Never ignore the advice of the doctor. If you're instructed to take medication, make sure you do so. Never skip taking your medication because it can lead to more harm.

7. Do not allow insurance companies to interview without the doctor’s instructions

The owner of the dog and insurance company might want to interfere with the case. Do not discuss the matter unless advised to do so by the doctor.
