It is everyone's wish to spend his/her leisure time positively.
Some people waste it by merely sleeping lazily. This is the case to most University students across the country and beyond borders.
Machakos University is not an exception of this act. A number of students engage in income-generating activities due to the varsity's location and environment.
The IGA's range from difficult to easy tasks.
Here are some of the activities Machakos University students engage in during their leisure time:
1. Gambling
Most Machakos University students are gamblers. Regardless of gender, they place bets to earn something. This affects most students from less fortunate families forcing them to identify ways of generating extra penny during their free time.
"I don't bet for fun. I do it to get money. I have been engaging in it for most of my years in this University, " George Odero a fourth-year student said
2. Construction sites
A good number of able students find opportunities in construction places. You hear them say "Kwa Site". This gives them extra income to boost what their parents give them. Since these students are energetic, they won't accept to sleep on empty stomachs.
"I won't differ my studies because of simple things I can hustle for. I better join 'mjengo' for a week and pay my rent. The work is hard there though." Abraham Ekitela, a Sociology student said
3. Pool tables and online writing
"Pool sometimes pay some of my bills. I do it for money during my free time." said Kelvin Kemboi.
They spoke to this writer at the varsity on Friday.
Most of such students place their bets at a joint next to Chamka Cafe in Machakos town.
They don't take it as leisure but economic activity, they play to win.
Apart from this, online work is in heart of some students. They write articles, especially news and academic blogging.
