Duale says that the rumour going around on social media is false.

The Garissa MP says that he is not aware of any plan by the government to slash CDF as part of austerity measures occasioned by the proposed 8% Value Added Tax (VAT).

The Jubilee MP asked his colleagues to stop speculations and causing anxiety.

He said that the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is yet to read President Uhuru Kenyatta’s memorandum in regards to the proposed VAT.

“Until the Speaker reads the message from the president and until I table the supplementary appropriation estimates from the National Treasury, anything else remains hearsay,” the MP said.

Fireworks are expected  in Parliament on Tuesday when MPs convene to discuss the proposed 8% VAT on fuel.

Last week President Kenyatta reduced the 16% VAT on fuel to 8% after public uproar.

However, majority of MPs want the VAT on fuel suspended by two years as they had earlier recommended.

The 16% VAT came into force on September 1 and has seen fuel prices hike, causing increases in bus fares.
