Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has promised to cater for the burial expenses of Baby Ethan Muendo who died after a lethal injection at Shalom Hospital.
Mutua during a press briefing outside his office on Tuesday condoled with the family of Ethan promising to ensure he gets a good send off.
"I'm saddened by Baby Ethan's death and since I know Jonathan as a friend, I together with my wife will ensure the child gets a good send off," said Mutua.
The county boss spoke during a ceremony where he was installed as patron of the Machakos Scouts Council.
Baby Ethan died on Sunday after he was injected with an overdose of morphine in a bid to relieve pain.
Ethan had been taken to the hospital for treatment after he sustained a burn on the hand inflicted by hot water from a dispenser.
The baby died just two hours after receiving the injection, and according to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU), Ethan was administered with 20 times the required dose.
The hospital was closed down on Monday and the facility's management was arrested alongside the health officer who administered the injection.
A section of journalists had earlier held peaceful demos demanding answers from the hospital and calling for justice.
The postmortem is expected to be conducted today (Tuesday) at Monalisa Montezuma morgue.
