The situation could have been worse were it not for the two God-sent street boys.

The two street boys have been operating near this market for a good time now.

They were among the first volunteers who helped the fire victims that got stuck in their houses when the fire broke up.

Putting their lives at risk, the two saved several people trapped in their houses.

A big blast that caused the fire woke them up. They warned residents of the fire before many knew of it.

“I was woken up by a blast that was followed by a series of sparking on power cables near the market.

“We started shouting to warn people who were sleeping in the flats, but our efforts to save them were thwarted by security guards, who locked the gates to the apartment blocks fearing that looters would invade them,” said Maina.

They managed to sneak in and saved a good number of people from the fierce fire.

According to eye witness Beth Njambi, the street children were the first ones to respond to the scene. She confirmed that they were there helping even before the Red Cross team had arrived.
