Speaking during an interview on Mbaitu FM on Saturday morning, Mbui explained that by calling for Makau's promotion he didn't mean he wanted the MP to be governor.

He noted that any leader who retains his seat or clinches a higher seat is considered to have received a promotion, adding that Makau has not yet told him about his 2022 plans.

"I have read in the news and social media that I endorsed Makau for governorship on Wednesday. I beg to differ. If you listened when I started speaking, I said I began as an MP then got a promotion when I was elected for my second term. Retaining your seat is a promotion because you can't be compared to those in their first terms," said Mbui.

"Makau began as the mayor then was elected an MP and is serving his second term. By calling for his promotion, I didn't mean he becomes a governor. In fact, I didn't mention governor or Machakos anywhere," he added.

Mbui said that the premature 2022 politics taking place in Machakos must come to an end.

He urged leaders to first serve the electorate before engaging in the 2022 debate.

The MP further noted that he will decide which seat to contest in 2022 after the end of his term.
