Through his official Twitter handle, the politician noted that to curb the renewed arson attacks in boarding schools, the government must ensure learners involved in the criminal activities face tough punishment.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta, your government must decisively and firmly deal with students who are torching schools. Indiscipline is not an attribute to success in school," he posted on Monday.

His remarks come at a time a when a dozen boarding learning institutions have been closed after students burnt their dormitories.

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed on Monday reported that 125 students have so far been apprehended and more than 20 schools shut down over the recent strikes.

In an address to the press, the CS said three students from Siakago Boys High School in Embu County have been arraigned in court and jailed for one year on probation, noting they can't be admitted to any other boarding school across the country.

"They have since cleared from the school and can only attend a day school as they report to the local chief," she said.

Mohamed blamed indiscipline among students and fear of national exams as the major cause of unrest.
