Former Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has threatened to sue the Standard Newspaper. This is after the paper published a story implicating Kidero in a Sh8b embezzlement scandal at City Hall.
The paper alleged that alleged withdrawals of cash from the county accounts during Kidero's tenure led to the loss.
Through his lawyers, Kidero said the paper should immediately and unconditionally withdraw the published information. He termed the report as defamatory words.
"...and publish an express and an unequivocal apology to our client in the same prominence," Kidero said through his lawyer Tom Ojienda.
Ojienda said the Standard Group should also admit liability to Kidero.
"Undertake not to repeat the defamatory words complained of herein or any publication related or incidental to the said published words of and concerning our client," he said.
He said unless they receive an apology, within seven days they will institute a suit for defamation.
According to Ojienda the words used in the story are defamatory mean that Kidero has been conclusively investigated, prosecuted and found guilty of massive theft of county funds.
