Ms. Momanyi, who dramatically resigned on Friday over 'frustrations', was pictured in Bomet along with Head Treasury Lawrence Nyangena.

But social media users bashed her conduct with some labelling her as a sycophant with 'no intention of doing her job's.

"This is pure sycophancy and should be discouraged. People are bringing back what we used to see during Moi era. It's said state of affairs," said Sam Omosa on Borabu Watchtowers.

Another user, David Atunga added: "This is more less worshipping someone. We discourage such habits. It shows the level of sycophancy in our county."

The photo was reportedly taken at Lake Region Economic Bloc expo in Bomet in which 14 counties agreed to work together and the event was officially commissioned President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But in her rebuttal, Momanyi, now working at the national government, said the photo was edited to suit some people's political motives.

"That photo was edited. The original one had two of us explaining something to the governor. I am only seeing mine and the governor. It's just politics," she argued.

Ms Momanyi was replaced by her Tourism and Trade colleague Peter Muga, whose appointment was confirmed by Nyagarama on Friday.

During Moi era, ministers like Joseph Kamotho of Kanu stalwarts like Kihika Kimani, Kariuki Chotara and Okiki Amayo used to kneel down when conversing with the president, something that irked opposition leaders.
