A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members now want Deputy President William Ruto to shelve his presidential bid and support the opposition leader Raila Odinga instead.
The brigade led by Siaya Senator James Orengo was speaking during a funeral in Migori County on Friday, where they maintained that the ODM chief will take another shot at the top seat in the 2022 general polls.
The request is rather funny, considering that Ruto is considered a frontrunner in the race and is deemed to be already working towards realizing his bid and has been attracting more endorsements ahead of time.
ODM Chairman and Suba South lawmaker John Mbadi said that Ruto is ineligible for the seat, and should retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 after their 10-year leadership.
"Ruto must prepare to go home. They had one orange and shared it equally. He cannot turn around and start demanding another orange," Mbadi is quoted by the Monday Standard.
The leaders endorsed Raila's anticipated fifth bid, terming him the best to take over from Uhuru.
They also urged Kenyans to prepare for constitutional changes soon, claiming that a constitution is on its way.
Other leaders in attendance included Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang', Kilifi South lawmaker Ken Chonga, Gem parliamentarian Elisha Odhiambo and area Senator Ochillo Ayacko.
