A priest from Kisii has urged the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to crackdown on drug peddlers in country to put an end to the menace once and for all.

Lawrence Nyaanga, a priest based in Kisii said Matiang'i should ensure police officers don't spare drug peddlers once they are arrested.

Speaking  on Friday at Enchoro area in West Mugirango, Nyamira County during the burial ceremony of Egesa FM presenter Okebiro O'mose, Nyaanga calle for ruthlessness in the fight against drugs in the country.

"Illegal drugs such as bhang should not be sneaked into the country. I am begging Matiang'i to order police officers to inspect vehicles thoroughly at road blocks and border points to nab those ferrying the drugs to various drug dens for selling," he said.

Nyaanga who doubles as the Kisii University chaplain said the lives of youths may be ruined due to drug abuse. 

He called on police officers to destroy the illegal drugs which they recover from suspects. 

"Bhang and other illegal drugs police nets from suspects should be destroyed so that drugs don't get sneaked into the market for the youth to access. Cartels found engaging in the illicit trade must be arraigned in court for prosecution," he noted.
