Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga has rubbished claims by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale that the referendum was not part of the March 9 handshake deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila says that referendum was part of the handshake and that Kenyans should prepare for it.
The former Prime Minister stated that the referendum is unstoppable, adding that it will be good for the country.
"We are going to have a referendum because it was part and parcel of the unity deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta on March 9," Raila said.
Raila made the remarks in Awendo in Migori on Thursday when he campaigned for ODM senatorial by-election candidate Achillo Ayacko.
Raila said that the Building Bridge's Committee chaired by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji and his Busia counterpart Amos Wako will start collecting views from Kenyans on the referendum.
The ODM Party leader said that the referendum will focus on changing the governance structure.
The referendum debate continues to elicit reaction with a section of politicians among them Deputy President William Ruto opposing it.
Others opposing the referendum push are Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Last week, Duale accused Raila of lying to Kenyans.
He claimed that Raila is using the handshake to champion his own interests.
Duale said that referendum was not part of Raila's handshake deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
