Dr Caleb Shivachi, who until his death was a senior lecturer at the English and Linguistics department, passed away on Monday after a short illness.

He was a specialist in Sociolinguistics Anthropology and a great interest in research on language contact.

KU staff and comrades took to social media to send their condolences to family and friends of the departed tutor.

Here are some of the messages they posted;

Austin Waziri said: ”Dr Shivachi of the English Department, we thank you dearly for all the sincere efforts and sacrifices you made in tutoring us. The early mornings you strained just to make sure you attend to your 7.00 am lectures. Your knowledge and wisdom will be passed on to generations. You have gone to be with the Lord. Rest in eternal peace Daktari.”

Chep Rencie remarked: “You would wipe your sweaty face and get bored for its interruption during work time...go thee well Daktari. May God walk you on a glorious journey!”

“Rest in peace my lecturer. I will always remember his words,” said Salim Abdalla.

Ochieng Isaac condoled: “An astute scholar and an ivory tower intellectual! Fare thee well sir.”

Saleh Clarissa, a KU alumnus, had this poem for the departed soul;

Death sometimes sneaks through tiny crevices’

Unseen viruses, tiny bullet wounds, sicknesses,

It floods our space with darkness,

Changes love songs into dirges,

Death came and switched off a teacher,

Now the sound of silence becomes our chorus,

We mourn with the bereaved,

I mourn my fallen hero

Another pen has ran out of ink.
