Even as Mt. Kenya's alleged unity deal gains momentum, a section of leaders drawn from the North Eastern region has faulted the developments terming them an irony.
Led by President Kenyatta's personal adviser and former Mandera Central MP Abdikadir Mohammed, the leaders likened the unity deals to a tale of an old pastoralist with 99 camels asking a neighbour one to donate so he may have 100 camels.
"Such an irony that our compatriots from Mt.Kenya feel marginalized! Reminds one of the old pastoralist tales of the herder owning 99 camels asking his neighbor having only one to donate so he could have a handsome count of 100," Abdikadir posted in his social media page.
Abdikadir's sentiments were also echoed by Mohamed Wehliye who faulted the calls that Mt. Kenya region accounted for at least 60 percent of the country's GDP.
Central Kenya MPs say 60 percent of the country's GDP comes from the region. Any link to that research? I want to know what is produced in that 14K km square that contributes $45 billion annually to $75 billion GDP. Maybe they valued Mt. Kenya?" Wehliye posted in his twitter page.
