Confirming the incident, area Nyumba Kumi chairman Joseph Okangi Okundi said the baby was found wrapped in a towel and abandoned in the farm by residents.

"The woman who abandoned the baby is yet to be known. Were it not for residents who found the baby, he could have been alone in the busy tea farm," said Okundi.

Mr Okundi said the baby was left in his wife's custody and asked the lady responsible to take him before he chooses legal channels to handle the matter.

Nyamira OCPD Lilis Wachira appealed to members of the public to report to the police station for any clue to help link the baby with the mother.

"The public should help police find the woman who left the baby in the bushy tea farm," said the OCPD adding that child negligence is an offence punishable by law.
