Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o is not known to give handouts, despite his massive wealth resulting from a long political tenure and his profession as a medical practitioner.

Unlike most of his counterparts holding political offices, who are known to spoil the public with one hundred and fifty shilling notes, especially during campaigns, Nyong'o is not in this category, in what many would term being mean.

However, the leader is of the contrary opinion, noting that he is more comfortable channeling his funds towards more important things, like fundraisers and other policies aimed at benefiting the larger community.

This, he confirmed two years ago when he was holding the Kisumu senatorial seat, currently held by former Nyando lawmaker Fred Outa, rubbishing claims that he is a mean politician without a meaningful record.

“Who among you has ever seen me take a meal without sharing with a friend? I only hate people who are well-dressed, but still beg for Sh5 or ‘mandazi'," he was quoted by the Standard.

"I tell such people to sell their clothes and buy mandazi because the money I earn goes towards harambees, party activities and helping during funerals,” he added.

He also questioned the integrity of the 'generous' politicians, noting that they most likely engage in corruption before passing the money down to Kenyans and has poisoned the public's mind.

According to the county chief, leaders should concentrate on lasting solutions and not such options.
